Chic beach style to fit any budget.
There are few things I love more than heading to the beach on a hot summer day. I love everything from the salty waves, to the sandy beaches. The one thing I don't particularly enjoy is hauling all of your stuff there...and trust me, I have a lot of it. If you're like me, you need to have a plan on what you're bringing or else you'll end up disappointed when you realize you brought self tanner instead of sunscreen. I plan on spending as many of my days at the beach as possible, and I encourage you to do the same. If I can't keep myself organized, I can at least count on the fact that I'm going to look chic with this list of beach outfit essentials.
With the discontinuation of Victoria's Secret swim, I wasn't sure where I was going to find my bathing suits, much to my dismay. But this only allowed me to search for other exciting swimwear brands such as Maaji, Acacia, and L *Space. When it comes to buying bathing suits, I am the pickiest. This is one (usually) high ticket item that you are going to be wearing all season. It has to look flattering, and appealing to the eye. I am often caught in between going for the frills, or keeping it minimalistic. So here we have options for both because it's refreshing to switch it up once in a while. One-pieces are my go-to this summer in terms of swimwear. In fact, I've been incorporating these pieces into my wardrobe and using them as bodysuits. Zara's red one-piece gives me major Baywatch vibes, with cutouts on the side making the piece feel a bit more contemporary. Embroidery details add just the right touch to this plunging one-piece from Nasy Gal. Suede bikini? Check. I love how Maaji has incorporated this fabric into swim. Kendall and Kylie's swimwear collaboration with Revolve just recently launched, and the entire collection is worth checking out. This yellow and pink suit in particular is throwing it back to the 80's.
Chic, Breezy Outfits.
The trick to beach style is to have clothing that is flattering, comfortable, and most important of all, functional enough to slip in and out of. Let's take a look at some styles that inspire your best beach debuts.
Zara is having a major summer sale right now. Each of these crop tops below is available on the site for less than $12. Corset styles have been prevalent the past few seasons and this black piece from Zara is giving me all of the outfit inspiration. This bohemian pink suede top is perfect for teaming up with a pair of loose-fitting bottoms. Another corset-inspired top represents the pinstripes trend, mixing playful and serious. Gingham patterns are the print of the season. Why not try the trend out in this cute crop?
While these shorts may not all be "short," they certainly make a statement. For all of the punk-rock chicks, there are these Rolling Stone logo shorts with high waists and distressed and frayed details. These palm tree shorts give new meaning to preppy-chic. Bermuda length style shorts are perfect for a beach day or bbq. Pearls are everywhere lately. Daisy dukes add a touch of class with these pearl details. Exposed zippers are a major trend and these shorts incorporate a black zipper with distressed detailing and eyelet holes.
Florals got a makeover this season, with large prints dominating many retail stores. I love matching coordinates and these prints are just enough without becoming too overbearing. See below a culotte jumper in navy, and a navy blouse and pant set in a breezy fabric. Red has been increasingly used for retailers and the color finally seems to be catching on with customers. This year's "Fall color" is already popular for Summer, seen below with a red kimono, perfect for the beach, and this matching red set, better for those cooler beach days.
Nautical themes are classic summer wardrobe staples. Rock the looks at the beach in oversized pieces like this blue and white pinstripe shirt, or rock head-to-toe stripes in these matching coordinates. Red, white, and blue themed clothing is taking over the color palette this summer.
Trendy Towels & Totes.
Round beach towels are the trendiest beach accessory to date. The idea is very bohemian and turns any beach day into an instagrammable moment. I love this simple one from H&M with it's fringe details. You can go this route, or go for a quirkier route with this pineapple, nautical towel from Nordstrom. I love the Fair Trade UK brand, Emma Lomax. Their Clear Tote With Lemon Slice Bag is so appropriate for the beach and the PVC allows for easy clean up. If only for my love of pineapples, I have included this embellished pineapple pocket belt from Free People. Because wearing your fruit is just as good as eating it.
And of course, no beach look is complete without the right accessories. Check out these no-fuss, adorable anklets from Amorium, Electric Picks, and Jules Smith. Link on image to shop.
