Tom Ford's Spring '18 New York Fashion Week Show Proves That The 80's Are Back In a Big Way

At least according to Tom Ford.

Kicking off this Fall's New York Fashion week was Tom Ford.  The provocative designer debuted his latest collection at the Park Avenue Armory, setting the bar high for the rest of the collections set to premier at New York Fashion Week.  After a few seasons of forgoing traditional runway shows, the designer kept fans guessing again by opting for the more traditional route.  Tom Ford makes a case for NYFW, regardless of the many established designers making their Spring '18 collections elsewhere.

The designer is known for exuding sex appeal through his designs, and this type of sultry style is just what he brought.  All of the glitz and glamour that make the Tom Ford brand were not forgotten in this Spring collection, as the models walked the runway with looks ranging from luxurious evening wear, to comfy casual (still ultra luxe) ensembles.

Tom Ford knows that women are having a big moment now politically, and his runway show reflected just that.  Models were sent down the runway donning short hairstyles and minimal makeup.  The 80's are recognized as the birth of women in power and mark a period in time when women were joining the workforce and leaving their duties as stay-at-home moms.  This newfound role in the workforce was reflected by their form of dress and out of that came the birth of the power suit.  Power suiting is making a huge comeback, or at least as far as Tom Ford is concerned.  Power suits are everywhere in this collection, whether they're made with elegant fabrics, or denim, they're sure to cost you a pretty penny.

Let's take a peak at each one these expensive looks from the show.

Present Day Power Suits.

Not ready to go all in with the power suit?  You can sport the trend with exaggerated shoulders because it is ALL about the BIG shoulder.

Another trend adorned by Tom Ford is athleisure, but with his own twist.  The models walked the runway in low slung trousers and bodysuits with hips peaking out from underneath.  The birth of athleisure also dates back to the 80's when fitness was really popular, just as it is today.

I love a one-color-fits-all look and Tom Ford's presentation was monochrome magic.  The designer may have even been inspired by Orange is the New Black demonstrated by the orange jumpsuit.

If there's one thing Tom Ford knows, it's how to choose posh fabrics.  The exquisite fabrics and luxurious leathers make for interesting textures and shine.  Because who wouldn't want sparkly undies, or better yet a full on sparkling outfit?  As one of the more extravagant U.S. born fashion designers, customers can be sure he doesn't skimp on quality.

All of the flashy looks are nothing compared to these elegant pieces featuring chainmail detailing.  Chainmail has been brought back to life over the past few seasons and Tom Ford features the trend fashion in sleeves as well as a blouse.

And the party didn't stop there.  Tom Ford's afterparty was a celebration of the kickoff to NYFW and the launch of his latest fragrance, F-ing Fabulous.  And if nothing else, I cannot wait to get my hands on this new perfume because let's get real, Tom Ford is truly F-ing fabulous.
